ok didn't turn up for lesson today due to my rashes outbreak being really bad....
went to the polyclinic and the doctor diagnosed me with atopic eczema...i always knew i had eczema since young...hereditary...ok so...
what is atopic eczema?
Eczema aka dermatitis is inflammation of the skin. The word 'atopic' describes people with certain 'allergic' tendencies
what are the symptoms ?
- dry skin
- some areas of the skin becomes inflammed and red
- itchiness
- inflammed skin lead to infection
What causes atopic eczema?
Due to a gene being mutated. This gene is responsible in producing a protein called filaggrin, which is normally found in large quantities in the outermost layers of the skin. This protein is essential for skin barrier function. It helps to form a protective layer at the surface of the skin that keeps water in and keeps foreign organisms out.
Therefore a reduction or complete absence of this protein leads to impaired formation of the skin barrier. As a result, the skin dries out too easily and the outer layers of the skin are poorly formed, constantly flaking off.
So people like me,with filaggrin mutations, foreign substances can easily enter the skin and be seen by the immune system. This explains the development of inflamed skin (eczema). *so the molecular level(james xiao) one.....hahas
ok am i boring you already?im not done yet...i still got the pharmacology part...drugs,drugs,drugs~
prescription:
1) cloxacillin antibiotics - for infection
2) hydroxyzine - anti-histamine(block the action of histamine, which is a chemical that is released by the body during an allergic reaction)
3)betamethasone(topical cream) - relieve skin irritation
4)urea - moisturizing cream
sadly there is no cure for eczema...the only way to moisturize, moisturize and moisturize
the sound of TRUTH.
